The Salvation Army - Grace Havenhas 5 positions for a Child and youth worker(relief Staff) Terms This is a casual, part time job, which reqires working days, evenings, nights, and weekends. Shift work is involved. Salary will be negotiated and depends on the skills and experience of the applicant. Education The applicant should have some college. Experience is an asset. Credentials required The applicant should have Child and Youth Care Worker (CCW/CYW) Diploma, Social Service Worker (SSW) Diploma, Community Support Worker (CSW) Diploma, Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate, Cultural Awareness Training, First Aid Certificate. Work Setting Group home, Youth drop-in centre, Children’s services facility, Social service agency Target Groups or Clients Male, Female, Children, Adolescents, Families, Persons with intellectual disabilities Type of Community or Social Service Child welfare, Education or training, Personal and social adjustment and health (substance abuse, gambling, behaviour disorders), Socio-economic needs or conditions (housing, nutrition, unemployment, financial assistance), Volunteer coordination, Early intervention programming for at-risk youth, Services for pregnant teens, Services for the homeless Specific Skills Obtain information and prepare reports or case histories, Appraise clients’ needs or eligibility for specific services, Implement life skills workshops, Assess client’s relevant skill strengths and development needs, Conduct follow-up assessments, Provide suicide and crisis intervention, Resolve conflict situations, Supervise activities of clients living in group homes and half-way houses, Implement behaviour management programs, Liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients, Develop service intervention logic models and outcome measures, Maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research, Screen, recruit and train volunteers and support staff Additional Skills Administrative and office activities, Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers, Housekeeping activities, Food preparation Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities Fast-paced environment, Work under pressure, Physically demanding Transportation/Travel Information Valid driver’s licence, Public transportation is available Ability to Supervise 11-15 people Security and Safety Basic security clearance, Enhanced reliability security clearance, Confidential security clearance, Child abuse registry check, Child welfare check, Driver’s validity licence check, Medical exam Essential Skills Document use, Writing, Oral communication, Working with others, Problem solving, Decision making, Critical thinking, Job task planning and organizing, Finding information, Computer use Other Information Please only apply if you are willing to work any shift.
